5 Common Myths about Shilajit- Ayuvya Ayurveda

There are a lot of prevalent myths regarding shilajit which might be pulling you back from trying this miraculous traditional herb. Don't worry, we are here to burst the most common myths or misconceptions about the usage of shilajit for you. Let's keep on reading.

Whenever we hear the word Shilajit, we associate it with men's sexual health and physical performance. Shilajit is not just used as Viagra or a sexual stimulant for men, it is a health rejuvenator & has myriad benefits for women as well. 'Shilajit' encompasses numerous remedial properties as it can cure many ailments ranging from boosting one's immune system to improving overall cardiac health. This article is not about highlighting the benefits of shilajit, it is about breaking the preconceived notions people have in mind regarding its usage.

There are a lot of prevalent myths regarding shilajit which might be pulling you back from trying this miraculous traditional herb. Don't worry, we are here to bust the most common myths or misconceptions about the usage of shilajit for you. Let's keep on reading.

1. Shilajit is only for Men

Well, there's a lot of focus on the usage of Shilajit for men, it's equally effective for boosting women's vitality and immune system as a whole. Not only is Shilajit a powerful supplement for boosting male fertility, but it also regulates the menstrual cycle, and relieves anxiety & stress in women leading to a healthy reproductive system.

Being highly enriched with iron & humic acid, Shilajit is known to cure anemia in women, if taken as a dietary supplement.

2. Shilajit should be taken in Raw form as purification reduces its therapeutic Efficacy.

Another misconception about shilajit is that it should always be consumed in raw and unprocessed form. It should not be purified or washed as it would shed its nutritional value which is not at all true.

Purification is very important when it comes to shilajit. Unprocessed or Pure shilajit is unfit for human consumption as it contains dirt, impurities, and high levels of radicals due to being exposed to harmful microorganisms in its natural environment.

Shilajit used in our Ayuvay Go On goes through a thorough purification process to make it toxic-free and safe to consume.

3. Shilajit causes Constipation

Shilajit does not cause any constipation if taken as per the recommended dosage. Its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and purifying properties eliminates harmful toxins from the body, suppresses the growth of harmful bacterias & prevents constipation.  However, the consumption of impure and unprocessed shilajit may lead to constipation and intoxication due to heavy metals.

4. Shilajit is unsafe for Kids

There is not much awareness regarding the usage of shilajit for kids. If you are sure about the authenticity of shilajit, you can give it to everyone, even kids above 3 years who are not allergic to its bioactive ingredients. Shilajit is rich in a variety of minerals, and nutrients and has high iron content. It is being added to lots of medicines that are given to kids who show signs of iron deficiency. It's surprising but some people give it to their pets too.

Make sure to consult with a child specialist to get the recommended dosage instructions before adding shilajit to your kid’s diet.

5. Shilajit should not be consumed in Summer

Due to the hot potency of Shilajit, many people think it can not be taken in summer. Are you also in the same dilemma? If yes, let us make it very clear to you that shilajit can be taken in all seasons.

During winter, pure shilajit is recommended with milk, lukewarm water, or other hot beverages to boost the energy level in the body by giving a warm effect. On the other hand, shilajit should be consumed with plenty of water during summer to balance its hot potency. Other factors which you need to consider before taking it in summer are your body type, digestive system, metabolism rate, and lifestyle. Individuals having poor digestive systems are advised to reduce their dosage during summer.
